Walker's Court reimagines a historically significant Soho site as a vibrant mixed-use destination for culture, entertainment, living and work. Developed for Soho Estates, the project replaces a series of tired 1950’s buildings with a dynamic collection of theatres, shops, bars, offices and homes, while celebrating the area's rich social and cultural heritage. At the heart of the scheme sits the Boulevard Theatre, a new cultural venue that continues Soho's long association with performance and nightlife while helping secure its future as a centre for creativity.
The design draws inspiration from the historic urban grain of Soho, reinstating the narrow, vertical plot widths and varied building heights that had been lost through post-war redevelopment. A palette of hand-made brickwork and carefully restored façades reconnects the development to its surroundings, while contemporary interventions establish a confident new architectural identity. Existing buildings have been retained and adapted where possible, balancing conservation with renewal and revealing layers of the site's history.
Throughout the development, moments of theatre and spectacle are woven into the architecture. The former Raymond Revuebar is marked once again by its restored neon sign, while the retained Box nightclub has been wrapped in a lattice of hit-and-miss brickwork illuminated by programmable LED lighting. A double-height glazed bridge spans the court above, linking the two sides of the development and creating a lively focal point overlooking the streets below. Together, these interventions transform Walker's Court into a contemporary piece of Soho that reflects both its past and its future.
