The transformation of a block of Georgian townhouses in the heart of Soho reimagines two of the neighbourhood’s most recognisable institutions: the original Soho House at 40 Greek Street and the historic Kettner’s restaurant. Comprising eleven Listed buildings and two buildings of local merit, the project balances the careful restoration of historic fabric with contemporary interventions that support the evolving needs of modern hospitality.
A new space has been unlocked within the existing Listed buildings through the insertion of a bronze-clad pavilion within the central courtyard. Designed to sit lightly within the historic setting, the structure expands the members’ areas while preserving the integrity of the original Georgian townhouses. Lightwells and new glazed openings draw daylight deep into the plan, revealing previously hidden views of the courtyard and an original Victorian staircase while strengthening the connection between old and new.
Alongside this, Kettner’s Townhouse has been restored as a boutique hotel, restaurant and Champagne Bar, celebrating the building’s rich history through the careful retention of features including floral plasterwork, heritage mirrors and mosaic tiled floors. Throughout the project, contemporary materials and clean architectural forms sit alongside layers of Georgian and Victorian craftsmanship, creating spaces that feel both timeless and unmistakably Soho.
