Originally designed by C.H.B. Quennell, whose Arts and Crafts houses helped shape the character of the area, Hampstead House had been altered over time into a patchwork of disconnected spaces. This refurbishment restores a sense of coherence to the detached family home, retaining original features where possible while introducing contemporary detailing and natural materials that sit comfortably alongside the historic fabric.

A previous conservatory has been replaced with a contemporary rear extension, framed by full-height glazing and subtle limestone banding. Its floating corner cantilevers out from the house, opening the interior to the garden and strengthening the connection between old and new. Inside, timber wraps the floor, soffit and joinery, while a linear skylight filters daylight through exposed oak joists to create a calm and sociable dining space.

The entrance hall has been reworked as a more generous and welcoming threshold, lined with arched panelling that references the geometry of the original façade. Upstairs, the master suite has been reconfigured to create a seamless connection to a private terrace above the extension, with oak-lined dressing rooms set against the softer tones of a limestone bathroom. Outside, stepped garden terraces respond to the existing terrain, creating an integrated landscape that extends the family home into its setting.
