Boulevard Theatre is a contemporary performance venue designed to support an exceptionally diverse programme of theatre, comedy, cabaret, film, fashion and live events. Conceived in collaboration with theatre consultants Charcoalblue, the project re-establishes a permanent cultural venue on a site long associated with Soho’s entertainment and nightlife history.
At the heart of the theatre is a pioneering cylindrical auditorium with revolving stalls and balcony levels that can be reconfigured into multiple performance layouts. Designed to maximise flexibility within a constrained urban site, the space can transform between a range of formats at the touch of a button, allowing productions to reshape the relationship between audience and performer. The acoustically isolated auditorium was developed using immersive VR technology, enabling the design team to test and refine the numerous configurations required to support its varied programme.
The design draws inspiration from Soho’s theatrical heritage and the legacy of the Raymond Revuebar, combining contemporary interventions with references to the area’s rich cultural history. Throughout the project, architecture, interiors, branding and furniture were developed as a single design language. Bespoke seating, created in collaboration with Race Furniture, sits alongside carefully integrated graphic elements and theatrical detailing, creating a venue that is both highly adaptable and rooted in its context. The result is a new model for performance space that combines technical innovation with the energy and character of Soho.
